The flowers are colored with my crayons. It was then quilted squared up and then those narrow borders were put on. They are strips put through the bias tape maker but are on the straight of the grain. The borders and binding are actually the back of a fabric.

The Living Room Quilt, This is called the Living Room Quilt because I used only what was there with me. Luckily the two fabrics were on the stairs ready to go to my sewing room. The bird House, This is at least 8 years old but remains one of my favorites. The idea for the oval frame came from watchine Bob Ross. The leaves the floral department. The butterfly"s wing tip was hidden behind the rose bud to help give dimension. All of the flowers were touched by paint to give them depth. The raw edge landscapes are so fun., Nature Project

Practice, Practice, Practice, I got a new book "Hooked on Feathers" not realizing it was "hooked feathers". There is no backtracking. I had a long narrow piece of backing and batting from a previous project and put muslin on top and had fun. I decided to make it into a table runner. Baby Blanket, This has become my standard baby blanket. I have 3 more to complete this next month. I mark the letter the oval and a line for a 2 inch border and then just freehand everything--no marking--less time. Chinese Paper Cut Design, This is another of the Chinese paper cut traditional designs but with a twist. It was appliqued on top of a deer hide which was draped onto a patchwork quilt. I did these a couple of years ago. I used sliver thread a holographic thread which picks up the color of the background., Animals Project

Hand Appliqued Roses, I painted the design first to make the pattern for hand applique. The leaves are cut from a leaf print giving me the shading and veins. The rose fabric was a mottled red. The bud is dimensional. The quilting is with Sliver., Nature Project

The Poppy, I blew up a Chinese cut paper design. These are designs that are in one piece. With the design on paper backed fusbile web I fused it to black fabric and cut it out with an Xacto knife and scissors. I fused it to my fabric ( I actually used the back of a piece of fabric). layered my sandwich and quilted with Sliver After I squared up the quilt I put on the small borders made with a bias tape maker. The Fall Garden, It feels like fall out today. When I went to do the landscapes eight years ago I went to art books. I learned you need a foreground a medium ground and a background. The sponged greenery is my midground with a medium texture and the background is the dark sky behind the tree with no texture. By having the sharp foreground with medium texture and smooth texture you get great depth., Seasonal Project

Landscape postcard, A bird cut from fabric was fused onto a free-motion embroidered branch. The background started as wet fabric that was sprinkled with dry RIT dye (blue gold and green distributed unevenly). It was put in a plastic bag twisted to distribute some of the dye and then mircrowaved for 2 minutes to set the dye., Animals Project

Kate's First Grade Drawing, Kate's Mom decided to make a quilt for each month using one of Kate's drawings from grade school. This was my favorite and I made my own quilt with the drawing. The drawing is outlined in black so I quilted around it in black. The outer border is a striped fabric mitered at the corners making it look complex., Friendship Project

The Sunflower Garden, This is my second landscape a copy of the first landscape I made. My friend has the first. These were all done eight years ago for a garden tour. The Goldfinch, This is the smallest of the 28 landscapes made 8 years ago. The birds are outlined and have fusible web put on the back of them. They are then painted with acrylic paint made transparent by fabric medium or transparency medium. The black lines are redone after the paint dries., Nature Project

Bluebird In My Garden, This is another Sherry Nelson bird and the background was again painted on a very wet man"s blue shirt. The unusual thing is that the oval and the binding are edged with varigated yarn. It brought the colors to the outside of the quilt., Nature Project
