My circa 1980 laminated cabinets need to be replaced. I have a budget but can't afford custom cabinets. I want solid wood doors. How can the TV shows replace cabinets so cheap?

Had a fire and now I get to re-do with limitations...I was considering two toned cabinets in my u-shape with a pennisula kitchen. The top would be white and the bottom a "sepia" color. Is that too much?
HELP!!!!The ceiling starts to slope right in the middle of the cabinet over the fridge, then over the broom closet. Any thoughts about how this could not look like a PATCH UP job?
Hi Lauren, As we speak I am traveling from Seattle to Charlotte, NC to my new home. I intend to update the kitchen Immediately, however I don't now how to update these 80's oak cabinets! I do have $ but also "renew" what I can. I will be going w/granite and stainless steel appliances unless you have another great design to make this 80's kitchen "POP! Thanks, I'v followed HGTV since 1988! But I really need you NOW!
I recently purchased a house that is in need of a kitchen. Some of the cabinets are so deep, pantry items get lost. Other cabinets are so shallow dishes do not fit. I also have limited counter space, which makes cooking frustrating.
