My circa 1980 laminated cabinets need to be replaced. I have a budget but can't afford custom cabinets. I want solid wood doors. How can the TV shows replace cabinets so cheap?

I have the SAME problem and was looking for some insite as well. problem is they are NOT wood, so paint isn't as easy. you could try. I saw an episode where they sanded down the wood, and sanded they laminet, and painted everything white and put large long metal handles on the doors, but it looked very modern. it depends on the style of your home too. you have to also use a wood filler to fill in the gap between the wood bar and the fake wood. but I wasn't a fan of that look either. still looking for something to do with this kitchen that I like. I did change out the sink and it helped a lot.

The shows wouldn't replace them, but they would definitely paint them. Just take the doors off, and paint the wood and the door fronts the color of your choice. Add some new hardware to the doors to give it a nice pop. Then, invest in a new countertop. Take the measurements and get one cut to fit; I don't think that would be too expensive. Also, think about doing a great looking backsplash. Do some research and decide what will fit your budget. Once you paint those cabinets, it'll look much better! Good luck.

I have seen many cabinets like this and had some in the past. I saw some painted ones that were a great improvement. If you can't afford to replace them, paint them black or see if you can find some stick-on surface product. Ask kitchen cabinet stores if they ever have any surplus cabinets that someone ordered and didn't use. Good luck.
