I have green carpet in a family like room that abuts the kitchen. I want to renovate the kitchen to make it an eating area/family room. There is a fireplace at one end of the room and the entire room looks out on the backyard. The backwall includes an entrance to the basement and a hallway.

We have a 4,800 sq.ft. house, but have a tiny, awkwardly shaped kitchen. We have no cabinet space because the cabinets weren't custom-made, so there are huge, hollow holes between them...total wasted space. The cabinet under the stove is useless because the fan vent and gas line run under the stove and into the cabinet. We would like to remodel, replacing and adding more cabinets and maximizing our space.

I am thinking of removing the 1/2 entry wall and bar area and putting in a bigger stationery island - do you think this is a good idea and would it improve the look of being more open???? Thank you so much for your thoughts
